Description

The Mcculloch's Rainbowfish is generally relatively easy to keep and suited for the beginner to intermediate aquarist. They are an active species and prefer to be kept in shoals of 6 or more in planted yet spacious aquariums. They are generally bronze to brownish on the upper half of the body and brownish to white on the lower half. They have lateral body stripes, and stunning pink fins when displaying. Colour intensifies in breeding males.  

This species of Mccullochs Rainbowfish is found in freshwater waterways just south of Cairns, Queensland.

  • Peaceful community fish with other small peaceful species.
  • Readily breeds in captivity.
  • Tolerates broad water parameters, however must be stable.

Mcculloch's Rainbowfish are peaceful community fish that prefer to swim in groups of 6 or more. It is best to keep multiple females per male. They can also be kept with other smaller peaceful community fish.

Feeding:

Mcculloch's Rainbowfish are omnivores and will eat flake, small pellets, live, fresh, frozen, and freeze-dried. For optimal health, provide a variety of foods, which can include high-quality flake foods, brine shrimp, and any type of worms, as well as vegetable supplements and spirulina.

Mcculloch's Rainbowfish are best suited to a longer aquarium as they are active and energetic swimmers. An aquarium 2ft or larger is recommended. They are also well known jumpers, thus their aquarium should be well covered.
