Description

Developed in Japan, Ranchu are very popular amongst goldfish enthusiasts. The Ranchu Bronze is a refined and elegant variant of the traditional Ranchu goldfish, noted for its rich metallic brown to deep copper hues and its lack of a dorsal fin. Bred for symmetry, head growth, and smooth body contours, this variety is especially popular among enthusiasts of high-grade ornamental goldfish. Like all Ranchu types, it is slow-moving and thrives in carefully maintained aquariums that accommodate its unique physical structure and gentle temperament.

Features of a Ranchu Bronze

  • Distinctive bronze to copper coloration with metallic sheen

  • Rounded, deep body shape with a smooth, arched back

  • Lacks dorsal fin, contributing to a clean silhouette

  • Prominent head growth (wen), typically covering the crown and cheeks

  • Grows up to 15 cm in length under optimal conditions

  • Deliberate swimmer, sensitive to strong currents and sudden water changes

The Best Aquarium Size for Ranchu Bronze

A single Ranchu Bronze requires a minimum of 75 litres to allow adequate space for swimming and waste dilution. For every additional fish, add 35–40 litres. A long, shallow tank layout is preferred to reduce swimming stress and aid access to the surface.
