The Platinum Medaka, also known as Ricefish, is an exquisite freshwater fish that captivates aquarium enthusiasts with its ethereal beauty. Originating from Japan and other parts of East Asia, the Platinum Medaka is a member of the ricefish family. Its small size, reaching approximately 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in length. They are a very popular aquarium and pond fish, and a very hardy species, very forgiving for water quality making it an excellent beginners fish.
A minimum tank size of 40 liters is suitable for a small group of Platinum Medakas. However, providing them with a larger space will allow for better swimming and natural behaviors.
Platinum Medakas are social fish and thrive when kept in a school of at least six individuals. They mix well in a community tank, with smaller species of fish like white clouds and danios, but they will also get along with goldfish and paradise fish and are ideal for stocking in unheated aquariums and Ponds.
Platinum Medakas are omnivorous and readily accept a variety of foods. Offer them a combination of high-quality dry flakes or pellets specifically formulated for small fish, as well as frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Remember to feed them in small portions several times a day to prevent overeating and maintain water cleanliness.
