Aquarium Pump

Besides adding a powerhead for facilitating proper filtration in the tank, you can also add other pumps to make the water move more powerfully, producing sufficient current.

Aquarium Heater

Whiptail Catfish enjoy temperatures between 22 - 26° C. Aquarium heaters not only heat the water to the desired temperature, but they stabilize the temperature and ensure consistency. A thermometer is recommended to monitor the water temperature.

Aquarium Decorations

These fish spend time resting and nibbling on wood. The Whiptail Catfish also needs lots of hiding spots to feel safe in an aquarium environment. Add ornaments such as driftwood, rock, caves, tubes, and pipes.

Aquarium Lighting

Catfish do prefer a dim environment. You can create a shaded environment by providing moderate lighting and using aquarium plants for shade. Sufficient light is also important for the growth of your live plants. LED lighting is an excellent choice for both, as it lasts much longer and is cooler than traditional lighting.

Aquarium Substrate

Aquarium sand or fine smoot gravel is a good substrate for Whiptail Catfish as this protects their abdomen.

A variety of Substrates are available at Coburg Aquarium.
