Description

Balzanii Argentine Humphead (Geophagus balzanii) is an interesting species to keep. They are a relatively peaceful tropical cichlid species although males can become increasingly intolerant of other males in their territories as they mature. They are known from the South America and generally found in groups of individuals with a higher concentration of females to males. Features of Balzanii Argentine Humphead:

  • They belong to subfamily of  neotropical Cichlids named Geophaginae
  • After spawning the female will pick up the eggs in her mouth in a form of delayed mouthbrooding
  • The male develops a large forehead bump when mature. 
  • Vertical transverse bands, and beautiful iridescent coloured scales from green to blue
  • Sifting through the substrate in searching food
  • The average lifespan is 5-8 years

Balzanii Argentine Humphead love living in a group. They are generally peaceful and can keep together with calm species such as armored catfish or other cichlids from the Geophagus group, such as:
