Red Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) is a stunning dwarf gourami, prized for its vibrant red hues and peaceful temperament. Unlike many other gourami types, Red Honey Gouramis are smaller and less territorial, making them an excellent choice for nano and community tanks. Their calm nature and adaptability make them ideal for aquarists of all experience levels.
Red Honey Gouramis thrive in tanks as small as 20 liters, provided the environment is well-maintained. Their small size and gentle nature make them perfect for nano setups, where they can coexist peacefully with other small, non-aggressive species. Floating plants and gentle lighting mimic their natural habitat, creating a serene environment where they feel secure.
These dwarf fish prefer water temperatures between 22°C and 28°C, with a pH range of 6.0–7.5. Regular water changes and gentle filtration are essential for maintaining their health in small tanks. Avoid strong currents, as these fish prefer calm waters. Adding plants like Anubias or Java fern provides shelter and enhances their vibrant red coloration.
Red Honey Gouramis are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet. High-quality flakes or micro-pellets form an excellent staple food, while live or frozen options like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms provide additional nutrition. Including blanched vegetables, such as spinach or zucchini, ensures a balanced diet and supports their vibrant colours.
These peaceful gouramis are well-suited for community tanks. They coexist harmoniously with species such as tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras. Their calm nature allows them to integrate easily without disrupting other fish. Avoid pairing them with larger, aggressive species or fin-nippers to maintain a stress-free environment.
