Peacock Gudgeons : Care, Diet and Tank Mates

The Best Aquarium Size for Peacock Gudgeons:

A minimum tank size of 20 gallons (75 liters) is suitable for a small group of Peacock Gudgeons. A larger tank provides more swimming space and allows for the establishment of territories.

Peacock Gudgeons Tank Mate Compatibility:

Peacock Gudgeons are peaceful by nature, making them suitable tankmates for other peaceful schooling fish like tetras or rasboras. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping fish that may harass them.

Diet & Feeding:

The only drawback of this fish kind is its taste for live food like live blackworms. Quite often the fish ignores dry food though sometimes you may succeed to train them to eat small pellets.

Peacock Gudgeons Tank Setup

  • Substrate: Use a fine-grained substrate, such as sand or smooth gravel.
  • Plants and Decorations: Provide plenty of hiding places and visual barriers using live or artificial plants, rocks, driftwood, and caves.
  • Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended, as too much brightness may cause stress.
  • Filtration and Water Quality: Use a reliable filtration system to maintain excellent water quality. Regular water changes of 25% every two weeks help to keep the water conditions optimal.
  • Heater : A heater would be necessary if the winter temperature is too low in your state of Australia.

Fast delivery and good quality fish,

I would have separated fish into 2 bags as the ammonia levels were through the roof when I got them there was lots of fish waste I’m the bags. I think 7 fish in one bag is too many. The fish were great quality and have settled in really well.
