Rotala Wallichi is a stunning addition to aquariums and functions well as a flowing background plant to a midground focal point, provided you keep it well pruned. It adds rich burgundy red to pinks to your aquascape. It can be a demanding plant in terms of lighting and nutrient requirements. Native to Asia, Rotala Wallichi is found in waterways of China, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Scientific Name
Rotala Wallichi
Difficulty
Moderate to difficult. Best to keep with species of fish that do not consume plant material, and have calmer swimming habits. Lighting and nutrient requirements are increased for optimal growth.
Placement
Midground to background placement in the aquarium. Can be pruned for a desired size and to encourage sideways growth.
Growth Rate
Rotala Wallichi has a moderate growth rate and utilises most nutrients in the water column in the form of liquid fertilisation. Co2 will boost growth and enhance colour, although not essential.
Lighting
Rotala Wallichi requires high lighting requirements for healthy bushy growth and bright colour.
