Description
Splashing Tetra C. Gutatta Tetras are Difficult to breed. Splashing Tetras have very interesting breeding behaviour, as they lay their eggs on the leaves of overhanging plants, then splash water over the eggs so that they don’t dry out. This is also how they get their name. In an aquarium, they may spawn by depositing their eggs on the underside of the cover glass. These fish are accomplished jumpers, the aquarium must have tight fitting coverslides with no escape holes. Males grow larger and have longer fins. The Best Aquarium Size for Tetras:
Splashing tetras are considered easy to keep in a community aquarium of at least 35L. As a shoaling species, Splash Tetras are best maintained in good sized groups; six specimens at the minimum and 10+ being much better. Opt for a larger tank if you are planning to add a few compatible species.
Tank Mate Compatibility:
Splashing tetras should be kept in groups. They are used to living with lots of their own kind, so have at least 6 of them in one tank. As peaceful fish, they pair well with other peaceful species. But, it would not be ideal to keep them with heavy feeders such as Congo Tetras as the Splashing Tetras will not compete for food and therefore will not get much food at all. Also, keep them away from large or aggressive fish. They can get stressed easily and their health will deteriorate as a result.
