Wakin Goldfish: An Ornamental Classic for Coldwater Aquariums
The Wakin goldfish, a centuries-old variety originating in Japan, combines the robust nature of common goldfish with a subtle elegance. Distinguished by its streamlined body and double caudal fin, the Wakin thrives in well-maintained environments and is an ideal choice for both indoor aquariums and outdoor ponds. Though hardy and adaptable, achieving optimal health and colouration in Wakin goldfish requires thoughtful care, particularly in terms of tank setup, diet, and compatible tank mates.

Elongated body shape similar to common goldfish
Double tail fin (caudal fin), often symmetrical and flowing
Typically red, white, or a mix of red and white in coloration
Can grow up to 30 cm in length in optimal conditions
Lifespan ranges from 10 to 15 years, often longer with proper care
Active swimmers with a peaceful temperament
Wakin goldfish require ample swimming space due to their size and activity level. A single adult Wakin should be kept in a minimum of 150 litres of water. For each additional fish, increase the volume by at least 75 litres. Rectangular tanks with more horizontal space are preferred, as these better accommodate their swimming patterns.
