Reproduction

Mollies are a livebearer, the females giving birth to fully formed fry. Males will mate with several females, from one mating females give birth to multiple batches of fry. Gestation period is around 28 days at 26-27°C, longer at cooler temperatures. Easily bred.

 

Feeding

Omnivorous and herbivorous (algae). Strong appetite because of its active nature, feed at least 2-3 times a day. Eats most aquarium foods, feed some vegetable based foods.

 

Additional Comments

Mollies are a popular group, active, easily bred and thanks to selective breeding, now available in a wide range of colours. In nature Mollies are quite adaptable, living in saltwater, brackish and freshwater. Prefers some salt in water (eg 5-10% seawater), particularly in soft water areas.
