Breeds in Spring as water temperatures start to increase. Scatters adhesive eggs amongst plants, the adults will prey on the eggs and fry if they find them. First foods for the fry include freshwater plankton (in ponds), or fry foods such as Vinegar Eels and Fry powder food (if raising in tanks).

Pearlscales are one of the 'cute' fancy goldfish, with their very rounded bodies and friendly nature. Pearlscales are so-named because many of their scales are convex, each scale looking like a pearly dimple. This variety first appeared in China in the 1920's. Suitable for indoor tanks and outdoor garden ponds (but provide protection from predators if kept outdoors.) May be out-competed for food if kept with fast types such as Comets.
