Range

Northern and eastern Australia, also Murray-Darling system.

 

Reproduction

After mating the female carries her eggs under her tail. The young disperse when they are fully developed.

 

Feeding

Omnivorous, eats most fish foods. Has a very keen sense of smell, senses the introduction of food very quickly.

 

Additional Comments

Hardy native prawn suitable for heated or unheated tanks, a useful scavenger as it has an excellent sense of smell. Do not keep with fish large enough to prey on the prawns (eg large Cichlids) Please note: avoid the use of copper based treatments if invertebrates are in the same tank.
