Reproduction

Egglayer, scatters eggs amongst aquatic plants in summer months

 

Feeding

Omnivorous, accepts most standard fish foods, prefers floating foods such as flake.

 

Additional Comments

Ideal for small outdoor water features- an efficient predator of mosquito larvae and very resilient to a wide range of fluctuating temperatures. Also known as Ricefish (the olive coloured wild form is often found in rice paddies). The golden form is a captive-bred strain.
