Reproduction

Eggs laid on a firm surface and guarded by male until they hatch.

 

Feeding

Carnivore, prefers small live or frozen foods such as Daphnia..

 

Additional Comments

Useful for mosquito control in garden ponds, and as a food fish for larger species in farm dams. Males develop larger more colourful fins. There are several closely related species all commonly known as Carp Gudgeons.
