Omnivorous. Prefers small live or frozen foods.
Adult male Checkerboards are very attractive with their long finnage and green spangles. Rarely bred, most aquarium stock is wild-caught from South America. An excellent fish for planted tanks containing small species. Will eat small fish if given the opportunity.
