The Female Dumbo Fighter – Candy/Koi Fancy is a stunning ornamental variety of Betta splendens, selectively bred for its vivid marbled coloration and oversized pectoral fins. Also known as Dumbo Ear Betta or Elephant Ear Betta, this variety is distinguished by its large, rounded pectoral fins that resemble elephant ears. The Candy/Koi Fancy strain exhibits vibrant, unpredictable patterns in red, orange, yellow, black, and white, often shifting over time due to the marble gene. Female Dumbos are less aggressive than males but still display bold personalities and unique fin structures, making them a centrepiece in peaceful aquariums.

Aquarium Setup Fighter Female Dumbo – Candy/Koi Fancy
Aquarium Filtration
Use a gentle sponge filter or adjustable flow internal filter to avoid stressing the Betta’s delicate fins. Clean water is essential, but strong currents should be avoided.
Aquarium Plants
Live plants like Anubias, Java Fern, Water Sprite, and floating plants like Salvinia or Amazon Frogbit provide cover and reduce stress. Bettas appreciate shaded areas and soft cover.
Aquarium Lighting
Low to moderate lighting works best. Overhead brightness can be softened with floating plants to mimic their natural habitat and enhance colouration.
Aquarium Heating
Maintain water temperature between 25–28°C. Bettas are tropical fish and suffer in cooler water, so a reliable heater is essential.
Aquarium Substrate
Use soft sand or smooth gravel. Darker substrates enhance their colours and provide a natural feel. Avoid sharp or jagged substrates.
Aquarium Decorations
Decorate with driftwood, smooth rocks, ceramic caves, or Betta hammocks. Ensure all décor has smooth edges to protect the Dumbo’s long, flowing fins from tears. Provide ample hiding spots and open swimming space.
