The Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus is a large, predatory haplochromine cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi. Often referred to as the Spotted Sleeper or Fusco, this species is known for its elongated body, dark mottled patterning, and ambush hunting strategy. Males become particularly eye-catching during breeding, developing metallic blue or violet hues, while females and juveniles maintain a more subdued, cryptic appearance. Due to its size, aggression, and predatory behaviour, this species is best suited to experienced aquarists with large, predator-focused tanks.
