The best aquarium size for Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish

A minimum aquarium size of 100 litres is recommended for one adult Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish, with approximately 50 litres of additional capacity for each extra fish. Larger aquariums are preferable, providing more swimming space and helping maintain stable water quality. Goldfish produce significant waste, so adequate filtration and regular maintenance are essential.

Tank Mate Compatibility for Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish

Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish should be housed with other peaceful, slow-moving fancy goldfish that have similar care requirements. Suitable tank mates include:

  • Oranda Goldfish

  • Ranchu Goldfish

  • Fantail Goldfish

  • Ryukin Goldfish

  • Pearlscale Goldfish

Avoid fast-swimming varieties such as Common and Comet Goldfish, which may outcompete Pom Pom Goldfish for food.

Diet for Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish

Provide a high-quality sinking fancy goldfish pellet as the primary food. Supplement their diet with daphnia, brine shrimp and other suitable frozen foods, along with blanched vegetables such as peas and spinach. Feed small portions once or twice daily, ensuring all food is consumed promptly to help maintain excellent water quality.

Aquarium Setup Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish

Aquarium Filtration

Use efficient mechanical and biological filtration to handle goldfish waste while maintaining gentle water movement. Avoid strong currents that can make swimming difficult.

Aquarium Plants

Hardy plants such as Anubias and Java Fern are suitable choices. Plants provide enrichment and natural cover, although goldfish may disturb loose-rooted plants.

Aquarium Lighting

Moderate lighting with a consistent day and night cycle is ideal. Avoid excessively bright lighting if the aquarium does not provide shaded areas.

Aquarium Heating

Pom Pom Chocolate Goldfish generally perform well at approximately 18–23°C. Maintain a stable temperature and avoid sudden fluctuations.

Aquarium Substrate

Fine sand or smooth, rounded gravel is recommended. Avoid sharp or abrasive substrates that could damage delicate fins or the facial pom pom growths.

Aquarium Decorations

Use smooth rocks, driftwood and ornaments without sharp edges. Maintain generous open swimming areas and avoid overcrowding the aquarium with decorations.
