Corydoras kanei is a small, peaceful catfish from South America, valued for its attractive markings and active nature. These bottom-dwelling fish spend much of their time exploring the aquarium floor, searching for food and resting among plants and decorations. They are social fish that do best in groups and are a great addition to peaceful community aquariums.
A minimum aquarium size of 60 litres is recommended for a group of Corydoras kanei. A longer aquarium provides more room for the group to explore and gives them a larger area of substrate to search through. Keeping the aquarium well maintained is particularly important for these bottom-dwelling fish.
Corydoras kanei are peaceful and can be kept with other small, community-friendly fish.
Avoid aggressive or very large fish that may bully or eat Corydoras kanei.
Offer sinking pellets or tablets designed for bottom-dwelling fish as their main food. They also enjoy frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, daphnia and brine shrimp. Feed small amounts regularly and make sure food reaches the bottom where the Corydoras can easily find it.
Use a reliable filter that keeps the water clean without creating an overly strong current. Regular water changes are important for maintaining good water quality.
Plants provide useful cover and make the aquarium feel more secure. Easy-care plants such as Java fern, Anubias and Java moss are excellent choices.
Moderate lighting is suitable. Providing shaded areas with plants or other decorations allows the fish to retreat when they want less light.
Maintain a stable temperature of approximately 22–26°C. Avoid sudden temperature changes, as stable conditions help keep Corydoras kanei healthy.
Fine sand is the preferred substrate. Corydoras use their sensitive barbels to search for food, so avoid sharp gravel that could damage their mouths and barbels.
Use smooth wood, rocks and plants to create shelter and shaded areas. Keep plenty of open substrate available so the group can forage naturally.
