The HMPK Dumbo Fighter Candy/Koi Fancy Betta is a striking ornamental freshwater fish prized for its vibrant colours, distinctive koi-inspired patterns and oversized pectoral fins. Scientifically known as Betta splendens, this fancy fighting fish combines the compact body and short fins of a Halfmoon Plakat with the impressive, wing-like pectoral fins of the Dumbo variety. Its colourful appearance and engaging personality make it an eye-catching centrepiece for a well-maintained tropical aquarium.
A minimum aquarium capacity of 20 litres is recommended for a single HMPK Dumbo Betta, with 30 litres or more providing additional swimming space and greater water stability. Use a secure lid, as bettas can jump, and leave access to the water surface for air breathing. Avoid strong currents that can make swimming difficult.
Male bettas are best housed individually, although carefully selected peaceful community companions may be suitable in larger aquariums. Potential tank mates include:
Compatibility depends on individual temperament and aquarium conditions. Avoid fin-nipping fish, aggressive species and other male bettas.
This carnivorous fish thrives on high-quality betta pellets supplemented with frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworms. Offer small portions once or twice daily, adjusting quantities to prevent overfeeding. A varied, protein-rich diet supports healthy growth, vibrant colouration and overall condition.
Use a gentle sponge filter or an adjustable filter with a reduced flow rate. Maintain efficient biological filtration and perform regular partial water changes.
Live plants such as Anubias, Java Fern and floating plants provide shelter, resting areas and natural enrichment.
Moderate LED lighting enhances the Candy/Koi colour patterns. Provide a consistent photoperiod of approximately 8–10 hours daily.
Maintain a stable temperature of 25°C–28°C using a reliable adjustable heater and thermometer.
Fine sand or smooth aquarium gravel provides a suitable base. Darker substrates can help accentuate the fish's bright colours.
Use smooth driftwood, rounded stones and aquarium-safe caves. Avoid sharp edges and rough artificial plants that could damage the enlarged pectoral fins. Provide resting spots near the surface and unobstructed swimming areas.
