Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

Mosura Red Wine Shrimp are a premium freshwater ornamental shrimp prized for their rich red wine colouration, against a white body, refined patterning and striking appearance in planted aquariums. A selectively bred Caridina variety, these shrimp are best suited to mature, stable aquariums with excellent water quality. Their small size and peaceful nature make them an excellent choice for dedicated shrimp aquariums where their colour and natural behaviour can be fully appreciated.

Features of Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

  • Premium selectively bred Caridina shrimp with deep red wine colouration

  • Peaceful and suitable for dedicated freshwater shrimp aquariums

  • Reaches approximately 2–3 cm in length

  • Excellent algae and biofilm grazers

  • Best maintained in stable, mature aquariums

  • Performs well in soft, slightly acidic water

  • Suitable for planted aquariums with moss, wood and other natural surfaces

The best aquarium size for Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

A minimum aquarium size of 20 litres is recommended for Mosura Red Wine Shrimp, although a larger aquarium provides greater water stability and is preferable for established colonies. A mature aquarium with plenty of grazing surfaces will help support natural feeding behaviour and successful colony development.

Tank Mate Compatibility for Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

Mosura Red Wine Shrimp are peaceful but small and vulnerable to predation. For the best survival and breeding results, a dedicated shrimp aquarium is recommended. Suitable peaceful tank mates include:

  • Otocinclus

  • Pygmy Corydoras

  • Ember Tetra

  • Chili Rasbora

  • Celestial Pearl Danio

Diet for Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

Provide a varied diet based around high-quality shrimp food, supplemented with algae wafers, blanched vegetables and natural biofilm. Small amounts should be offered regularly, with uneaten food removed promptly. Indian almond leaves can also provide an ongoing natural grazing surface.

Aquarium Setup Mosura Red Wine Shrimp

Aquarium Filtration

Use gentle filtration with a sponge pre-filter to prevent shrimp and shrimplets from being drawn into the intake. Maintain excellent biological filtration and stable water parameters.

Aquarium Plants

Live plants, mosses and floating plants are highly beneficial, providing grazing surfaces, shelter and additional cover for young shrimp.

Aquarium Lighting

Moderate lighting is ideal, particularly in planted aquariums. A consistent lighting schedule encourages healthy plant and biofilm growth.

Aquarium Heating

Maintain a stable temperature of approximately 20–24°C. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.

Aquarium Substrate

A fine aquarium substrate is suitable, with darker substrates helping the rich red wine colouration stand out.

Aquarium Decorations

Use driftwood, rocks, moss and dried leaves to create grazing surfaces and secure hiding places. Avoid excessive water movement and provide dense cover for shrimplets.
