Tree Coral (Duncanopsammia spp.)

Tree Corals, also known as Duncan Corals, are a visually stunning LPS coral species prized by Australian aquarists for their branching tree-like structure and large, fleshy polyps that open fully under gentle water flow. These corals display vibrant colours, often in shades of green, pink, orange, and yellow, and create a dynamic, eye-catching focal point in any reef aquarium. Duncan Corals are moderately hardy and ideal for aquarists with some reef-keeping experience who want a coral that offers both beauty and ease of care. With proper conditions, Tree Corals can grow into impressive colonies that bring depth and movement to your reef tank.

Fish Tank Compatibility

Tree Corals are peaceful and generally coexist well with other corals, provided they have enough space to expand without being stung by neighboring species. They are compatible with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates. Avoid species that may nip at coral polyps, such as certain angelfish or butterflyfish, to prevent damage.

Lighting Needs

Tree Corals thrive under moderate LED or T5 lighting. Proper lighting encourages vibrant colours and polyp extension. Avoid sudden changes in light intensity to prevent stress or bleaching, especially when introducing new specimens to the tank.

Water Flow Requirements

Provide moderate, indirect water flow that gently moves the coral’s polyps without causing tissue damage. Adequate flow helps remove debris, deliver nutrients, and promote healthy polyp extension, enhancing the coral’s overall health and appearance.

Tank Size & Placement

Tree Corals are suitable for medium to large marine aquariums. Place them on the substrate or lower rockwork with ample space for growth. Maintaining stable water parameters and consistent care is essential for the coral to thrive and develop into a thriving, colourful colony.

All our corals are sustainably collected or tank grown to ensure our reefs remain protected.
