Swordtail Indonesian Flag Lyretail is a vibrant and elegant freshwater livebearer, prized for its striking tri-colour pattern and flowing lyretail fins. A variation of the classic swordtail, this fish displays a bold combination of red, white, and sometimes black reminiscent of the Indonesian flag, making it a standout addition to community aquariums. Its hardy nature and active swimming behaviour make it suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists seeking colour and movement.

Swordtail Indonesian Flag Lyretail is an omnivore that thrives on a varied diet. High-quality flake or micro pellet foods should form the staple, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Include plant-based options like spirulina flakes or blanched vegetables to support overall health. Feed 1–2 times daily in small portions.
Moderate filtration is sufficient, with a reliable internal filter or hang-on-back system maintaining clean and stable water conditions.
Live plants are highly recommended. Species such as Java fern, Vallisneria, and floating plants provide shelter and enhance natural behaviour.
Moderate lighting supports plant growth and highlights the fish’s vivid colours. LED lighting systems are ideal for efficiency and control.
Maintain water temperature between 22–26°C using a dependable aquarium heater to ensure stability.
Fine gravel or sand substrate works well, supporting plant growth and creating a natural aesthetic.
Include driftwood, rocks, and planted areas to create hiding spots while preserving open swimming space.
Maintain pH between 7.0–8.0 and water hardness between 8–20 dGH. Regular weekly water changes of 20–25% help maintain optimal water quality and fish health.
