Krobia Oyapok is a South American cichlid more peaceful in nature. Only growing to approximately 10cm, the Krobia Oyapok is rarely seen in the aquarium trade in Australia, therefore it is a must for collectors and the serious aquarium hobbyist.
We recommend providing a tank size of 60L or more for Krobia Oyapok. They do not need a large amount of space, however the bigger tank is better for the health of your fish. Be sure to provide plenty of structure & plants for fish to retreat to and feel safe.

Coburg Aquarium, specialize in rare, unique and common species of live fish.
Krobia Oyapok are omnivores. In the aquarium, live and frozen foods such as Artemia, Daphnia and chironomid larvae (bloodworm) should be offered regularly although most specimens will also learn to accept dried alternatives with pelleted products generally preferred to flake. Naturally they feed on invertebrates, therefore do not keep with small invertebrates such as shrimp.
At Coburg Aquarium, we stock a wide variety of high quality fish foods.
Slow-moving waters would be consistent with their natural habitat. A strong filtration system is absolutely necessary. Make sure the filter matches with your tank size, and manage calm water flow.
Here are some great ones to consider:
Live Aquarium plants can provide spaces for female to lay their eggs, and fish to hide and feel safe. Krobia Oyapok naturally occur in vegetated streams and suit a planted biotope style aquarium. Plants that require lower lighting can be used, such as anubias, crypts and java moss.

Lighting can be as bright as you need for the plants to thrive, but make sure you have a lot of cover for the Krobia Oyapok. These fish do not like direct sunlight or bright light, so very bright lights need to be hitting the leaves of the plants without shining directly onto the fish. They prefer a biotope style aquarium which is typically lower lighting.
Replicate a natural river bed or stream with fine gravel or sand. If planting live plants, aquarium soil can be placed below a layer of gravel or sand for optimal nutrients for healthy live aquarium plants.
