Placidochromis milomo, commonly known as the "Super VC10," is a bold and visually striking species of haplochromine cichlid native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. Known for its thickened lips and electric blue to metallic coloration, the VC10 is a highly sought-after species among enthusiasts of African cichlids. Males display the most vibrant colours, especially during breeding, while females tend to be more subdued in appearance. This species is best suited to aquarists with experience keeping larger, semi-aggressive cichlids due to its territorial nature and specific care requirements.

This species should be housed with other robust, similarly sized Malawi cichlids that can hold their own. Avoid smaller, timid, or overly aggressive species. Suitable tank mates include:
Malawi Dolphin (Placidochromis electra)
Placidochromis milomo is an omnivore with a preference for protein-rich food. Feed a balanced diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen krill, bloodworms, and brine shrimp. Occasional spirulina-based flakes or pellets support colouration and digestion. Avoid overfeeding and ensure food is appropriately sized to reduce aggression during feeding times.

Aquarium Filtration

Aquarium Plants
Live plants are generally not recommended, as VC10s may uproot them. Use hardy species like Anubias on driftwood if desired.

A variety of Substrates are available at Coburg Aquarium.
Aquarium Decorations
Incorporate large rock structures, caves, and territorial breaks to reduce aggression and provide hiding areas. Ensure rocks are stable and secured to prevent collapses during digging.
