Description

The Tinfoil Barb is a freshwater fish which comes from Thailand, the Malayan Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. They inhabit large waterways including rivers, streams, canals, and ditches and will enter flooded fields to spawn and feed. Tinfoil Barbs grow very large and will swim in all areas of the aquarium. They need a school of 5 or more of their own kind and a very large tank to accommodate them.

Tank Mate Compatibility:

Despite their size, tinfoil barbs are a peaceful fish with an easy-going temperament. They do best when kept in groups of five or more. If kept as a single fish or too small a group, some bullying behavior can occur. Avoid slow-moving or shy fish.

Tinfoil barbs become large fish, therefore will produce more waste than small species. When selecting an aquarium filter consider the size of your aquarium and ensure adequate volume to maintain clean water. They are a hardy species and tolerate broad water parameters but do best in clean water.  Cannister filters are a great option for medium to large aquariums.
