Chalice Coral - A Grade (Echinophyllia spp.)

Chalice Corals are a visually striking and colourful addition to any reef aquarium, highly prized by Australian aquarists for their unique, plate-like growth forms and vibrant, often fluorescent, colour patterns. These LPS corals are slow-growing but highly rewarding, offering textures and shapes that range from flat, undulating plates to dome-shaped mounds, often with intricate ridges and valleys that create depth and dimension in the aquarium. Chalice Corals are suitable for intermediate to advanced reef keepers who want to add a splash of dramatic colour and visual interest to their tank. With proper care, these corals can thrive for years, forming large, eye-catching colonies that become a centerpiece of your reef display.

Fish Tank Compatibility

Chalice Corals are generally peaceful but can extend sweeper tentacles that may sting nearby corals, so ensure adequate spacing. They are compatible with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates, but avoid housing them with coral-nipping species such as certain angelfish or butterflyfish.

Lighting Needs

Chalice Corals prefer moderate lighting, making them ideal for aquariums with LED or T5 reef lighting systems. Too intense lighting can cause bleaching, so acclimate them gradually to stronger light conditions to maintain their vibrant colours and overall health.

Water Flow Requirements

Provide low to moderate water flow that gently circulates around the coral. Excessive flow can damage delicate tissue, while too little flow can allow debris to settle in the coral’s valleys. Proper water movement ensures nutrient exchange and encourages healthy polyp extension.

Tank Size & Placement

Chalice Corals are best suited for medium to large marine aquariums. Place them on rock ledges or lower areas of the tank where they have space to expand. Maintaining stable water parameters and consistent care is essential for long-term growth and vibrant coloration.

All our corals are sustainably collected or tank grown to ensure our reefs remain protected.
