Australia has a wide range of indigenous fish species which have adapted to a wide range of climates. Southern species such as Pygmy Perch are ideal for mosquito control in garden ponds, and large species such as Murray Cod make impressive solitary "pet fish" for unheated aquaria.

Fish from northern Australia require warmer temperatures (eg 21-26 C), and include many interesting aquarium species such as the Archerfish which shoots water at insects, and dimuntive Blue-eyes whose males' put on extravagant fin displays.
